What to Know About False Prophets

By Pastor Pam Sheppard

In ministry since 1981, I know a thing or two about false prophets. Besides the TV mega preachers that I watched for years, I also came to know at least 200 ministers while I was pastoring in a well-known denomination. So from my observations, I have designated 3 different types of false prophets. The deceived, the detoured and the diabolical.

There are those false prophets who are really saved but they followed the wrong leaders, and “sucked into themselves” mixed and false doctrines and practices. In short, they heeded and harkened unto the voice of seducing spirits and doctrines of the devil. However, they have not yet departed from the faith. These I call, “the Deceived.” Some of them will be set free. Because of pride, sad to say, others won’t be. Some false prophets would prefer to be caught up in a scandal than to admit that they taught error and thereby “led the people in the wrong direction, away from God, and not toward Him.” They are too spiritually proud to admit that they did not rightly divide the word of God.

Then there is the false prophet who was once used of God mightily, but he or she got deceived by the enemy and fell into disrepute. These I call “the Detoured.” This man or woman becomes a pretender—one who is very dangerous to those who are babes in Christ or who remain carnal Christians. Their followers “stand by their man” even when they should jump ship. The bible has a classic example of how the detoured “Old Prophet” deceived the man of God, resulting in the latter’s death. (I Kings 13)

Then of course, there is the out-and-out pretender who knows that he or she is serving the spirit of the Anti-Christ and everything they do is a masquerade. These I call “the Diabolical.” They are imposters, planted in among Christians to willfully bring confusion that will lead to destruction.

Every false prophet type— whether the Deceived, the Detoured, and the Diabolical— is equally dangerous. Why? Because they can leave a huge trail of victims.  I am humbled and thankful that although I was on the road to becoming a false prophet, the Holy Ghost jerked my chain, then cut it and broke it.  When  I was deceived by charismatic teachings,” God blessed me by closing doors and blocking me from spreading error. Even though I once had the heart, the skill and the desire of a mega preacher, God purposefully would not allow me to become a popular celebrity.. When a door opened, the Holy Ghost closed it and blocked my way through it. Moreover, among those that I have pastored, even though I personally believed some mixed doctrines, I didn’t teach them to those who allowed me to lead them. So praise God, after 36 years as a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ, I have no victims.

For example, I spoke in tongues, but I didn’t teach my followers to do so. I tithed, but I did not preach a “sow a seed,” prosperity gospel. In fact, I was completely self-sustaining. I gave back my church salary in the form of tithes and offerings to the churches that I pastored. When I practiced healing and the laying on of hands, I never told anyone to stop taking their medicine and “walk by faith.” I primarily preached the cross, sin, repentance, rebirth and the resurrection. But make NO MISTAKE. The false prophets of all 3 varieties:— the deceived, the detoured and the diabolical— are equally dangerous! Your prayers for them to repent may NOT prevail. And why not?

In order to repent, the false prophet has to do more than apologize and ask for forgiveness from those he has abused and deceived. If he has been made rich off of the backs of poor people by preaching the prosperity gospel, then God will require him or her to “give back” all of that money to the poor. Not too many false prophets are willing to give up those jet planes, million dollar homes and those Bentleys. Even the false prophets who are NOT mega, many of them have practiced the lie for so long, that it is practically impossible to receive the truth and act on it. Far too many have made “ministry” their career and not their calling.

Ask the Apostle Paul. He maintained as a tent maker. He would not allow any of the churches that he set up to totally provide his livelihood. That is why he could write, “whether abased or exalted, I can do ALL things 4 through Christ who strengthens me.” In other words, JUST SO YOU KNOW, I am not dependent upon YOU to live and to serve my God. When a false prophet’s livelihood is intricately tied to church dollars and resources, he or she is captive to a self-made trap that cannot be escaped from without God’s help. Actually, some false prophets have to be stripped naked to find God again, if they ever knew Him. So if you really think a particular false prophet is deceived, perhaps detoured but not diabolical, then your prayer should be “Lord, strip him.”

A word of caution. The religious demon assigned to me tried to set me up to become  a false prophet.  In several dreams, he showed me standing before huge audiences, walking up and down across a platform with my bible in my hand, preaching and teaching.  He even showed me pastoring a church of about 10,000 people.  Because I sought after the power to slay in the spirit, after 10 years of seeking, I got it. I could wave my hand, and certain ones would fall out, unconscious.  However, I began to question this power because I noticed that the ones in my congregation who fell out the most, were also those who could not STAND for the Lord, relapsing or backsliding constantly.  So I said to myself, “Pam, there is something wrong with this so-called gift. This cannot be from the Holy Ghost!” Once I prayed to the Lord and asked Him to “show me  the darkness,” I got quite the wake-up call that revealed that  the mega preacher phenomena of today is NOT of the Lord.  It is a combination of human charisma, “anointed” by the enemy’s power. My testimony is in “Come Out of Her God’s People.”

So if you are on that road, you need to get off, and get off with a quickness! If you have been burned by a false prophet, there is help.  Call 1-888-818-1117

The Late Eddie Long: His Face of Pride

king eddie

In order for truth to set us free, we are going to be challenged in all ways, spirit, soul, body, and mind. Challenges emerge from  people, places, and things, attitudes, and beliefs. The  main challenge  is linked to our assumptions.” Many of us don’t realize it but we assume God is not in control, and that we need to help Him out with everything. Part of walking in the spirit is to walk by faith knowing that God is ordering our steps. If you’ve had a false conversion and you know it, that was God. God has ordered your steps to know it. The word of God says that God’s people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge. Yet God resists  the proud. So receive your grace  by your humility.

Pride manifested in Eddie Long’s assumptions in the following ways:

  1.  He did not try the spirits to see if they be of God.  He simply assumed that if God had blessed him to be a mega preacher, that God was granting him mercy and grace where HIS SINS WERE CONCERNED BECAUSE HE WAS “SPECIAL.”
  2. Long assumed   that his special status granted him the right to keep his personal life a secret from his congregation, which goes well beyond the borders of New Life, since he was a TV preacher for years, affecting and influencing untold millions within the larger public domain.
  3. Long assumed that he could be healed by simply declaring it without manifesting sincere repentance through humility. It is important to recognize your particular own  face or style of pride because not only does pride go before a fall, but Also because God resists the proud.  What this means is that when pride causes you to fall, God won’t lend a hand to pick you up.As many faces as the religious demon has, pride has even more faces. For every human being there is a different style of pride. In fact, pride has a quality about it where it feels like it’s rising. You can actually feel it in your body, almost like temperature rising. It rises. Just as anger will rise and you can feel it mounting up in you, pride can do the same thing.

Here are some styles and faces of pride.

     1. pride is outraged when other people think that they are superior to you. black people experience a lot of this. You know, when another race has for centuries felt that it was superior to you and your race. We even had a movement which we called Black Pride. Yes, pride will rise, even on a religious angle. When another religious group thinks that they got all the answers, and that they are superior to you, pride will rise.

    2.  pride also causes the proud person to defend and justify himself. In other words, a proud person can never be wrong. And a proud person may not even be wrong, but if anybody may think that that person is wrong, then the pride rises. And you get people that just beat a dead horse, they just can’t stop defending themselves. “Well I really thought I should do this, but I really planned to do this, and I said I was gonna do this but I did that,” and they just keep going on and on, defending something that is turning something into a mountain that really is nothing but a molehill.

    3. Religious pride will keep people in the institutional church even though God may be suggesting to them it’s time to go. “No, I can’t leave here, because then what will all of my history with this group look like?” Pride is often about appearances, what do other people think about me and what I’ve done and what I’m doing. So pride has this need to justify itself.

    4.  Pride will also cause us to tear down others.  we’ve got to tear down somebody else in order to build ourselves up. Oh my, my And those who are people pleasers, pride is a key element in that particular situation. Because it causes a people pleaser to hunger after the prestige and praise and approval of others, and you see a lot of that in the institutional church. Oh, that stuff used to get Pam so sick. Different ones would get praise over and over and over again. And then there were those, you know the bishops and whatnot, when they entered into the assembly everybody had to stand for them, and could not sit down until they took their hand and said, you know, “Sit down, sit down now.”

     5. pride is also very deceptive. Because what it does, it misrepresents our thoughts and feelings in order to put forth a facade. A facade is a face of phoniness, an act, and like we black folk say, a front. You be frontin.  Pride will cause you to front. Pride is also easily hurt and injured, because it’s so insecure.

6.Pride will block us from experiencing genuine feelings of love and commitment. In fact, pride will cause us to deny our feelings. This used to be my  level of pride. Since I was rejected so much in my life, and especially in the institutional church and in the world, then my front was this: “I don’t care nothing about what y’all say or what y’all think. I’m gonna do what I’m gonna do and I’ll be ready to throw up my middle finger in your face in a NY minute! LOL pride is a cover up.

You know you’re hurting, you know your feelings are hurt, but rather than let somebody know that your feelings are hurt, you front, and you pretend. You know, like we used to do, like black folk used to do when you played the dozens. Some of y’all may be too young for that, but we used to play the dozens, and that’s where we’d all get around in a circle and start putting each other down, and putting their families down, “Your momma is so fat, and this one is so this, and you’re so ugly, and so on,” and go on like that. And what you had to do was show that you weren’t gonna let somebody who was putting you and your family and everything about you down, that they bothered you so you had to front.

And if you ever broke loose and showed how upset you were, how upset you really was, then you lost the dozens, you wasn’t cool, you wasn’t hip, you allowed your emotions to take you over.
To fight pride these days, I will do exactly what Jesus said. I go to the person and say, “Look. Did you mean this, this, that, or that, because quite frankly, you hurt my feelings. And I need to understand what you were doing and why you were doing it. Because, that bothered me.”

    7. Pride can also bring you into danger. It will definitely bring you into danger when you allow your pride to build up your anger, or you allow your anger to build up your pride, and the next thing you know, you’re jumping up in somebody’s face wanting to fight. You can’t take an insult, you can’t take a slight, you’re always offended, and the next thing you know, somebody’s gonna shoot you down because they’re afraid of you. You know, your pride has caused you to bring fear in them, and your pride can get you killed y’all. God hates pride. And He resists the proud. So if you want the grace, you’ve gotta learn how to resist the pride, honey.

     8. We have  got to be honest about our  feelings if we are going to fight pride.
Yes. Pride will also cause us to overcompensate and to be overconfident
. And I can hear them “I’m blessed” folk with that. “Oh I’m so blessed, I’m blessed, I’m with God, I’m so blessed.” And you know you are lying! You kno your marriage is going down the tubes, your kids are cutting up bad, sinning like God knows what, but IC folk are out there boasting  “I’m blessed, and I’m prospering, and I’m this, and I’m tithing, and I’m doing that, blah, blah, blah,” and it’s all a sham.

    9.  And pride will prevent you from admitting the truth, which is that you need help. So that when people come and extend a helping hand to you, your pride will cause you to turn them down.

GOD RESISTS THE PROUD

GOD RESISTS THE PROUD

“Faces of the Religious Demon”

 By Pam Sheppard
“The devil’s deception was broken in my life because I am quick to admit to error and I am not a people pleaser.”

Facebook is a place where everyone wants to teach and be heard and few want their followers to know that they don’t know very much.   Rebellion and belligerence is very apparent in their various posts which portrays a rebellious  spirit. Since rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, many Facebook teachers are in the hands of the enemy and God has turned some of  them over to strong delusion.

There are some teachers on fb that have actually put people in bondage with their teachings.  I won’t call any names but the truth is that their pride keeps them from being teachable. The enemy loves pride because deception is made easy when we think more highly of ourselves then we ought to think. I am not an advocate of the world’s self-esteem teaching that has been adopted by the religious world.  Self esteem as defined by the world is when the world has high regards for you.  You are accepted, found to be worthy and considered competent. In other words, worldly self-esteem is rooted in what others think of you. And for this reason, those who seek worldly favor will compromise to obtain and sustain the world’s approval.  Christians of this persuasion find that they are always trying to fit in and in so doing, they disobey the Lord’s will to please others.

I have purposed and established in my heart that my self-esteem is found in Jesus Christ.  The Lord is the only one I need to please because I love truth. When the motives of the heart are not pure, truth will be hidden.  To be pure is to be clear, articulate, unclouded understanding.  Not confused, covered up or clandestine. When something is not pure, it is defiled.  To defile is to contaminate or to pollute.  When the heart is not pure, then Satan’s job is easy because defilement has come from within US, usually because of pride. For pride begins with what we say in our hearts and what we believe in our minds. Jesus linked pride to adulteries, fornication, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy and foolishness. (Mark 7:20-22) A proud mind is not pure because it thinks, feels and behaves in ways that suggest that we think too highly of ourselves.

Pride, self-esteem and vanity deny and conceal the truth. These 3 traits will pull you away from the Lord’s will by quenching and grieving the Holy Spirit and your spirit will become blocked from God’s revelation about what is to come.  Pride is also PHONY. Nothing real about it because it puts forth a facade or an act. Pride will cause you to deny your feelings, and pretend so much that you even fool yourself.  But the devil is not fooled. He knows when you are “fronted” before him in your effort to appear to be in control, putting forth that lie when you routinely boast that you are blessed by God. As you over compensate, pride will prevent you from admitting that you need help and therefore the enemy can use your pride to block you from crucial resources.

The proud religious person must ALWAYS appear to be knowledgeable and therefore he or she will never admit to not knowing or understanding a verse of scripture, because they are concerned that others will think them stupid and so they will even lie to cover up their ignorance or their weakness as they  hide the truth to protect their religious image. Such people are already in the hands of  a religious demon [The Faces of a Religious Demon]. Pride goeth before a fall!

A proud person is not wise either. They make stupid, even costly mistakes. As vanity is excessive pride, a vain person’s conceit will bring sure destruction for self-deception is an open doorway to failure.  Proud people :

  • are outraged when others they that they are superior to them
  • are defensive, always justifying themselves
  • are critical in their efforts to tear down others to build themselves up
  • will hunger for prestige by seeking praise and approval from others
  • adopt the ways of those they are trying to please.
  • make EVERYTHING personal.
  • will live in the past and hunger for “the good old days.”

To the proud I  declare that the world did not create you. The world did not redeem you. When you justify yourself before men, you establish them as your lord with authority and you enable the enemy to deceive you. Remember. God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.

I chose this blog to cite because I whole-heartedly agree with what is written here.  Many are trapped in religion and religious ministry because of pride.  In my new eBook ‘The Makings of a False Prophet,’ I bring out these points in this article.  The Spirit of the Lord TRULY speaks through more than one vessel!  Pam and I did not know one another when she wrote this piece, neither had I read it before or during writing my book!

What Is A Jezebel Spirit?

What Is a Jezebel Spirit?
I don’t particularly like the name.  From a psychological perspective, the Jezebel spirit is a personality type.  It is called narcissistic personality disorder.  You cannot “cast out”  someone’s personality. Personality transformation is a renewal of the mind over time, a part of the deliverance counseling process.  However, from a spiritual perspective, the Jezebel “spirit” is simply a religious demon or a religious spirit. I called my third book “Faces of the Religious Demon,” because there practically countless ways that this demon manifests itself.  In the book, I present cases or profiles that were like “faces” or various facets of this demon.
There are people with religious demons who are tormented either with hearing voices, fears of having committed the unpardonable sin or of going to hell  as well constantly are bombarded by blasphemous thoughts. Some can’t even read their bibles out loud or silently. I recall a case where a captive could only read a pocket bible for fear that a demon would use her arm to pound her in the head with a hardcover, and possibly sustain  a concussion.
Need deliverance? Call 518-477-5759
So it is easy to embrace  a quick-fix  simply to relieve or stop the torment. Most workers  simply attempt to cast out demons  as a means to remove ALL  of a person’s bondages. It never really works. I have found that setting captives free who have a spirit of religiosity  in any form,  involves more than simply driving out the demons.
There are usually various strongholds to be torn down. Since strongholds are incorrect thinking patterns, this is done through the renewing of the captive’s  mind according to the Word of God. As the Lord said “you can’t put new wine into old wineskins or it will break. You can’t put a new patch of cloth on an old garment or it will tear, and you certainly cannot serve 2 masters, or you will hate the deliverance worker and love the preachers and teachers who are a significant yet hidden cause of your captivity.
The purpose of deliverance is to gain freedom from any hindrances in your life that would keep you from walking in the fullness of God’s plan for your life and your relationship with Him. Remarkably to some, it is often habitual religiosity that is the most difficult stronghold to overcome, even stronger than an addiction to alcohol or drugs because religion and “going to church” is culturally engrained and is therefore considered “the right thing to do.” It takes much time and patience to free captives from religion or a deceptive form of spirituality–a form of godliness that denies the power thereof.

A Deliverance Classic by Pam Sheppard
The bottomline is that I cannot work with a “religious captive” who continues to go to church, feed from the tables of either deceived or false prophets, and who is praying to a fake god. Therefore I mandate that while involved in deliverance counseling or mentoring with Sheppard’s Counseling Center, the captive must cease and desist from all religious activity including reading the bible and praying. Old things must pass away so that all things can become new.
An Excerpt from Faces of the Religious Demon.”
“When considering the demon referred to by the field of deliverance ministry as ‘Jezebel,’ we generally think of a female seductress and therefore sexual images are foremost in our minds.  It is true that where idolatrous religions are concerned, sex, lust and worship are intricately intertwined.  But make no mistake.  The distinguishing characteristic of Jezebel, is that she is religious. Jezebel is the religious face of the spirit of the Anti-Christ, an overwhelming narcissistic prides that has an arrogant self-image of perfection. Mainly caused by a refusal to accept their own imperfections, the pride of this particular face or facet of the religious demon is the denial of a sinful nature.  For built into the soul of such a one is a strength of will that hinders a captive so afflicted, to be able to submit to the will of God. Consequently, such captive find it extremely difficult to repent.”

Deliverance Ministry and the Need for Repentance

It took more than two decades for me to discover that the enemy had called me into deliverance ministry.

But God revealed it to me in recent years.  Some may think that perhaps I was fooled and that once again, the religious spirit  assigned to me sent me yet another counterfeit message. Those who practice deliverance  would remind me that Satan does not cast out devils or his kingdom would not stand.  And yes, I would agree.

However, I am inclined to believe that it was the Lord, for one simple reason.

I had begun to notice over time, that “those who manifested the most were the captives who never really got delivered.”   By “manifest,”I am referring to coughing, vomiting, growling, screaming, blasphemous utterances, and the like.

The truth is that “demons love to manifest.” Its a neat one of those “kill to birds with one stone,” kind of trick.  The deliverance worker gets puffed up and the captives is fooled that he or she has been set free.  What I have found is that true and complete deliverance is contingent upon the resistance of pride through
repentance.

I understand now why the Lord Jesus Christ declared that John the Baptist was the greatest born among men. With the exception of the Lord’s own mission of bringing salvation to the world, John the Baptist’s mission was the most important, as the only way to rebirth is through repentance. No one can come to the Father except by Jesus. Even so, no one can come to Jesus except through John’s message of repentance.

In spite of the fact that John the Baptist did not heal, nor did he cast out devils, John’s ministry was indeed the doorway to the supernatural. Through the preaching of repentance and through baptizing the sinner in water, John’s job was to prepare the way for the Lord to the sinner. Only through repentance and
baptism in water is the sinner prepared to receive the Lord. The Charismatics have amplified the meaning of repentance as a “change of mind” or
a “turning in another direction.” However, the repentance that saves is to
experience godly sorrow. Godly sorrow is an experience of the soul’s grief for
having no worthiness to approach God on one’s own merit.

It should not be mistaken for human shame or guilt due to wrong doing. The truth is that most people are already convinced in their minds that they are sinners. They reason in their minds “well, yeah, I have sinned, but so has the next guy and when I look around at others, my sins are nothing compared to his, so I believe I’m going to heaven because I am not that bad.” People in the world repent every day for this sin or that sin, yet without the leading of the Holy Ghost, they will not repent of being in the depths of their soul, “an alienated sinner, without God in the world.”

Godly sorrow of this kind is a deeply emotional experience where the sinner is brought face to face with his own inner darkness. It is the dark night of the soul. It is no
longer a comparison to the “next guy.” It becomes “it’s me Lord—and compared to You, I am a wretched being, a poor excuse of humanity. My heart cries out to You to save me.”

Brokenness is an important aspect of  achieving repentance toward God. When we are broken, we become ready to be forgiven for our sins and to be sanctified or set apart for His use. Brokenness is symbolized in the baptism in water, in that “the Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit.” (Psalm 34:18)

The brokenness of repentance feels like someone came into the room of our lives and suddenly turned the light switch on and exposed us. Jesus said that unless a seed
falls to the ground and dies, it cannot become what it was destined to be, and
that is “a child of God and a son of God.” We cannot cry out “Abba, Father” until we become aware in our hearts how our sin has separated us from Him and that the Lord’s Jesus Christ’s sacrifice at the cross has brought us into right relationship with Him.

Repentance is a walk of faith and humility into the valley of brokenness. Unless we take this walk, we are too rigid and hard to be molded in the hand of God. More than just simply being powerless before God, repentance leads to a brokenness before Him where we have been made to see our sins as God sees them. Repentance is the process whereby we have come to realize deep within, that our sins have hurt the Father. Only then, does the sinner receive salvation.

There are many who need deliverance from deliverance ministries.  I know because those who contact me for deliverance have generally been involved with at least two or more deliverance ministries before they find me on the web.  They come armed with information about the Jezebel spirit, ancestral curses, and the like.  Most of the time, their personal issues need to be dealt with before even considering casting out ONE demon.  Most often, that issue is a need for repentance and brokenness through confronting personal pride and rebellion.  To know more, you need “The New Idolatry.”

Here is a short quote:

“What I am finding is that deliverance workers are using the demonic realm as a potential proof that the spiritual dimension exists.  For as demons surface and blaspheme God, such manifestations are suggestive of God’s own reality.  This too is a perversion of true faith.  The bible says that we believe in God BY FAITH, simply because HE IS, and He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.  We are not to believe in God because we believe in the existence of the devil.  For the devil to have to be  convincing sin to the world that God exists is an outrage and an insult to the Almighty One, the Creator of Satan. Since when does the creature validate His Maker??? Satan can only do what God allows him to do.  Satan himself is a mere creature, not the Creator.” (pg 124)
